I Hate This Long Holiday [General]

Chicken Dishes

I got a fever yesterday. I was nervous because I have not had fever for about 5 years......but it seems okay now. I think I have been too anxiouse recently and caught a cold.

I found the trick to cook chicken recently. Before you start the cooking, make sure the chicken meat is dry. Otherwise during the cooking there will be a lot of water coming out of the meat. You can not get the meat very tender.

Ricky, Liu Ning, David and I had dinner at Thai Taste last night. Look at the chicken. I can not belive they cook the whole chicken and put it into a small plate. The whole thing just looks wired. Moreover they add so much sweet source that I believe it's totally americanized. I suspect if all the food they have are real traditional Thai taste?

Happy Thanksgiving [General]

Copyright Weiwei
The coming of the Thanksgiving means the end of the year is approaching. I can not believe another year is ending soon...

I had no plan about what to do in the holiday - I was thinking maybe I would go to the lab. But when the holiday really comes, I will usually give up any idea of working. The weather forcast was saying the Thanksgiving day would have rain and snow with 40 mph wind - "it's a tough day" it said. So you can see we are kind of wired to go to New York City at 8:30 am - Ricky, Ning and I agree that something was wrong in our heads!

The half of the day turned out very nice. It's warm and dry. We did not see too much about Macy's parade because it's really crowded. We walked very long to Grand SiChuan however it's closed. When we got back to Chinatown, it's pouring and damn cold.

We joined Lake and Tao Yu. Well since almost all the stores are closed, we headed to the cinema on 42nd street. Hehe..i slept 40 minutes in the theater. And actually this is not too bad to understand the National Treasure.

When we got out of the theater, it's dark. We had dinner in a Japanese restarant. It is much more "Japanese" than those in New Haven. But it's kind of wired...music, posters on the wall....

The Incredibles and The Polar Express [General]

The Polar Express

David and I went to watch the movie of The Incredibles and The Polar Express.

It's hard to belive I watched two animated movies at once and I really enjoy. As the adult to watch the movies for the kids, I have a different feeling - pure. No complicated human relation, no drama, simple idea and pure love. It makes people so warm and quiet.

Since the Monster's Inc., I have been amazed by a lot of animated movies. I like the way in which imagination will not be limited by reality. I like the people behind the screen who work so hard to reveal simple ideas to youngters. Maybe these are the true value of the animated movies.

Langer Symposium [General]

Robert M. Langer Graduate Student SymposiumI gave the final symposium (Robert M. Langer Graduate Student Symposium) poster to Yale's RIS today. The service is much better than I had thought. I got the proof in 10min and can get all the prints tomorrow morning. That's really fast. Take a look at the poster I designed. This is my first 'design work' showing in public.

Seems that things are slowing down recently. But actually I am super busy. I need to get some big experiments done before I leave the country mid next month. Moreover I need to get a new paper submitted before I leave.

Besides the ISIE (international society of industry ecology), I am now working on a website for Yale's Law School. It's just getting started yet. This is very cool because I can have good chances to learn something from law people.

It's Not About the Bike [Books]

It's not about the bikeI spent most of the spare time this weekend reading the book "It's not about the bike - my journey back to life" by Lance Armstrong.

Nobody would argue about what Lance has accomplished. He set the record of winning 6 times of Tour de France. But before this, he was diagonosed with testicular cancer and had already spread to his lung and brain. After his fighting with cancer, he started his first tour. Nobody would think he could win - not even thinking about 6 times. That's why almost all the European newspapers 'recommend' him to ride the bike to the moon - 'because it's much simplier than winning 6 times Tour de France'.

The story is absolutely inspirational. I read some of the reviews from reader who do not like the book. They said from the book you could find that as the person himself, Lance is not as respectful as most people thought. Well I somewhat agree - I mean maybe. But as the story itself, it's absolutely emotional and inspirational.

If you care to succeed, you might need to read the book.
