I Arrived in Beijing [General]

Leave Beijing to Kunming

Wow...after the long flying I got to Beijing. I am now stay at my cousin's home. It is very nice.

The flight is very good. I heard a lot of complain about Air China. But eventually I found that I have nothing to complain. The food...service...and most important they make the travel very short, even though it starts from JFK, passing northern Canada and Siberia...

As the first impression, Beijing is still the same as when I left 3 years ago. But it's very dark and I could not see to much. We had a very nice Chinese dinner!

I will go to get the visa tomorrow. Moreover, I will keep on updating the journal.

Packing for Leaving [General]

Lighthouse Point Beach

I spent most of the time in the weekend to clean the room and pack for the trip. The apartment is just a whole mess after the period of busy life. I am trying to think all the time about if there is something I forget to bring. It's been almost 4 years since last time I went home. "Going back home" has been really a very remote idea for me but now it's coming.

I went to the light house point this afternoon and want to see the sunset before I leave. I remember at the same time last year I come here a lot. Winter is a good time to see the sunset but it's not always very beautiful. Today is not very good either. The cloud is just too thick.

I had dinner with Xia tonight. Well hope everyone will have a good holiday!

I Think I am Tired [General]

I will go home in a couple of days. The word "going home" seems to me just like a brand new concept - I can not imagin it will happen soon! I am looking forward to it but I am not excited - I feel really tired.

I am trying to wrap up all kinds of things. I still need to work on the experiment. It still does not go as smoothly as we expected. But there is no reason not to do it. But anyway, I almost finish the next paper and it will be submit very soon. I appreciate the great help from Eric - thanks for his great effort to make the paper a really professional look!

I already get paid from the work for the Yale's Law School. This is actually a very very good opportunity to work on the website design. But now it's just not a very good time for me because there are so many things that I need to do recently. I think I will be able to put more effort on it very soon. For the ISIE website, it goes very well and seems that everything is under control right now.

Another exciting thing: I started my master diver course yesterday. It looks a lot of fun. I will go to the dry suit course this weekend before I leave. Anyway, I am very glad to keep thing moving even in the New England's winter season.

A bad thing today - I found my comment session of the webjournal was hacked by someone recently. When I was trying to delete those bad comments, I accidentally deleted some of the journal enetries on November. That's really bad!

Weekend Shopping [General]

Copyright Weiwei
I finally got sometime for shopping. I need to prepare some Christmas gifts and buy gifts for my return to China. It's amazing that Target has some very nice photo frames, even better than those from the art store like Hull's. Wow, it's very nice to put the pictures in.

I had dinner with David today. We had Indian food. Maybe I was too hungry - I found the Indian food is actually better than I had thought. Even though there is not too much in each dish - it's pretty expensive. But any way, it's not bad at all.

I met Hui-Ju after the dinner. Actually I called her to see if we could have dinner together. But this lady is super busy. "Hi, Hui-Ju, have a good trip back to Tai Wan."

The 2nd Robert Langer Graduate Symposium [Research]

Copyright Weiwei
Today is the 2nd Chemical Engineering Robert Langer Graduate Student Symposium. It seems that the whole event is great success - everything goes smoothly as we have expected. And the good point is that the department now has the funding for every year. So the symposium will be a yearly event!

I am glad that I am in the committee and did some work for the symposium. The fun part is chairing the afternoon session. This is the first time I do the chairing. You have to watch the time and remind the speaker when the time is running out. Plus you have to listen to the talk very carefully. In case nobody ask the question, you have to ask the speaker. But everything goes well and I am glad with it.

We had a very good banquet last night at the Quinippiac Club. Seems that everyone enjoyed the food!
