Protest Against Graduate Dorm [General]

We gathered in front of the Helen Hadly Hall (HHH) this noon to protest against the administrative of graduate dorm.

This is a pretty long story. But brifly, there are lots of international students living in HHH. In the recent years, a lot of Chinese students living in this dorm. So unavoidably there is a sort of Chinese enviroment pretty much like that we were in college. We can not undertand how this will bring up the "hate attitude" from the administrater. And this is getting worse and worse and finally became an obvious discrimination. After some of students collected the evidence, they got support from New Haven government.

I moved out from the dorm 3 years ago. At that time, the situation was not as bad as it is right now. But for things like that, you have to speak out and fight for the right.

Congrats to Sophia [General]

We had a party this afternoon at Quinee's place for Sophia's graduation. Time is flying. Sophia was my neighbour when I first came to Yale and lived in the dorm. Now she has already graduated. Quinee's place is very nice and thanks a lot for the nice food.

Chen Yuan, David and I had dinner tonight. We went to the Korean restaruant on the crown street. It's actaully better than I have thought. I have not been there for about more than three years. We talked about the job searching - not easy. Well I hope it's not easy just for the beginning.

Update [General]

Haven't post anything for quite a while. How's everything going? My mind was occupied with something else. Plus there was not too much happened.

Last weekend, Hong Rui and Qian Lin came to my place. We went around the campus. It's the first time I went to Yale Art Gallery (I was there once before but not for visiting). I like the audio tour, which is good for people like me who don't understand too much about art. It's actually very warm in that day. We had very good lunch and dinner together.

Still did not hear anything from job searching. I think this month people are busy with the ACS and APS meeting. Oh, by the way I just learned that this year is the year of physics. People are talking about the science in the century. Science is becoming more and more practical however it's humanity feature is fading. Well that's a big topic.

NHCC Competition, Cake and Random Thoughts [Thoughtful]

Tonight I got again the first and the second prize of snapshot category in New Haven camera club. I really like those two shots. But I think they are a little bit too static. This reminds me last week in the Boston Sea Rovers. "Taking pictures that are moving!" There is still a lot that I need to learn.

Liu Shan gave a piece of cake today. She emphasized that this was the first time she made cake. Actaully it's very good. It does not taste too sweet and the all kinds of nuts just made it delicious. Thanks a lot! (I had thought to put a picture here but I do not have a good plate to hold it.)

I tried not to sit in front of the computer too long. And I need to spend more time in the lab but the office, even though sometime I don't have too much to do. It's not a very easy time right now but I need to get through.

Job-searching Syndrome [General]

There is not too much to post recently. Friends around me are infected with job-searching syndrome one by one, of course including me - basically depressed. I have never experienced this kind of feeling - the future is so uncertain. You do not know where you will end up with.

I think I should be fine - everyone will get through. I started to use Netflex to watch movie and download music from Napster. They are pretty cool. Actually Napster does very well to protect the music. But it's compatible mobile players look really ugly.

I am so tired of the snow - it will never stop. We had planned a photo trip to New York Botanic Garden but was eventually cancelled due to this bad weather.

What People Like to Do? [Thoughtful]

Wow...the temperature hit near 50 today. Eventhough piles of snow are still there, people start wearing short pants. This is pretty interesting, which reminds me the thanksgiving experience two years ago in Miami. We met some cold air there and the tempetature dropped from near 90 to 60...well which was still okay for us who came from New England. But we just found out that many people over there started to wear the winter coat...I guess that's because they did not have too many chances to wear a winter coat.

Another interesting thing. Do you know which state in US has the most ski club? It's not Maine or Colorado but Florida. Do you know which state has the most diving club? Not Florida but Colorado. Well people like to do the things they actually do not have too many chances to do. That's interesting.

The 51st Boston Sea Rover Clinic   ]

Copyright Weiwei
I just came back from Boston and I am exhausted. It was tremendously fun.

I remember I went to the 50th last year. I am not that excited this time because I am getting more familiar with underwater photography now. But still there are so many breathe-taking presentations.

The one I like most is Norbert Wu's film from Antarctic. If you know his book of Under Antarctic Ice, it will make you more exciting when you see the film. Another photography master is Mr. Ernest Brooks. He has taken b/w pictures for several decades, really the master of light. Not too many pictures deserve black and white. Well there are many many other wonderful films and pictures.

I met Mr. Stan Waterman again. He is 82 this year but still spends 6 months a year on the sea, traveling, diving and shooting, which is amazing. I met Brian Skerry and got the signature from his new article in National Geography. And also Eric Cheng, who gives me so much inspiration...

I will try to put some video clips from the film festival later so you can get more idea.

The 51st Boston Sea Rovers

p.s. Thanks for Zhu Xi's hospitality so I can stay in Boston overnight...
