I am scared about the city here. Everything is so ready, so available and so convenient in New Haven but here I basically know nothing. I still can not adjust but thinking my home is still at New Haven. I hope the feeling will pass asap! We had dinner in a Chinese restaurant, which Mofei had recommended to me several times. But...wow...the waitress there had such a great attitude. And for the first time I did not leave any tip. Well I don't know what the life I will be facing...
![]() I went to the gym to say goodbye to Don and Gus. I haven't seen Don since I came back from the North Carolina trip. Because I am leaving next weekend, it will probably be another long time to meet those guys. I missed the water so much that eventually I grabbed the tank and decided to dive with them. There is of course not too much fun in the swimming pool but as long as I can dive, it would be fantastic.
![]() It's getting chilly outside. The grass is covered with foilage. The maple trees outside of the building are getting red. The autumn has arrived. It's the most beautiful season of the New England. I remember I had a trip to see the foilage last year. At that time I thought this year I might end up at some place where there would be no foilage. But I am still here. I think the most interesting thing of life is that you will never know what will happen and what you will get. You just try all your best to accomplish as much as you can and keep moving forward.

![]() Hui continuouly had problem with her effusion cell and eventually we had a chance to peel everything off and take a look at the inside. This is really a good chance because the cell costs a lot and we usually handle it very carefully. When we looked inside, we realized that there's nothing fancy. The thick tungsten wire is used to heat the crucible and the every thin wires are used to support the heating wire. The ceramic tubes are used to support everything and make sure there is no short. So the reason why it's wrapped that complicated is they don't want to you find out what's inside.
![]() In southern China, at least at my hometown, people don't eat flour. The reason is there is no flour. My parents are originally from north and they like the flour very much. But I only eat rice. Every time my dad made dumpling, I don't even want to taste it. When I come to US, I start to realize how tasty the dumpling is and regret I did not appreciate those made by my dad.
![]() It's been raining for several days - constantly heavy rain. I never saw the weather like this - I mean there is no sun for the whole week and everything is soaked! There worst part is it will not get better in the near future. There are too many bad weather/nature catastrophe - tsunami, hurricane, earthquake......
![]() Sorry for not being able to update the journal for a pretty long time. There were too many things happened. They are not really big issues but kind of distractive. I have the last chapter of my thesis left. Because it's a seperate paper, it will take longer time to finish. But it's going to be okay since most of the thesis has been finished. I recieved the proof of another paper accepted earlier and updated the version in research. I start to pack! I really hate this. If you've stayed at a place for about 5 years, it's really hard to move. But I try to push myself a little bit. I don't want to be in a terrible rush in the last a few days. |
