I came back from Yale. We had a wonderful show at Yale for the Chinese New Year. I really don't have time to process the pictures I took in the show. I used the batch process and here are some of them. Some of them may be better if I process individually but hope you can have a basic idea.

PhD Thesis Defense [General]

I drove back to New Haven yesterday for the thesis defense and today I finished. So from now on I can call myself 'Doctor'.

It's kind of exhausting. I was terribly busy with the experiments at Harvard and recently got a very bad cold. I did not get very good sleep at Jun's place last night. So I feel really relaxed now.

It's fun at Yale. I went to a seminar yesterday and played squash with Min, Jun and Yang. It's fun. After the defense, Eric bought several champagnes and nice cake. The whole group had Thai food for dinner. Thanks for the friends at Yale - I had a wonderful time.

Chinese Girls Won Women's Double in Australia Open [Sports]

Chinese girls won women's double in Australia Open. I was watching the game last night and thought they probably lost but eventually they fought back and won the game. It's a record win!

Some Updates [General]

I haven't been able to update the journal for a while. Just too busy to do so. Several things are going in the lab parallel and I have to deal with the coming defense. Plus I had a very bad cold.

I will go to Yale tomorrow and do the defense on Friday. The Chinese New Year is coming and I am going to spend the weekend there. I will have to be soly focused on the defense and not to worry about the things in the lab for a couple of days. I hope things will get better after the defense and after I take that some break.

Nikon Says It's Leaving Film-Camera Business [General]

Nikon Corp., one of the flagship brands for amateur and professional photographers alike, said yesterday that it will stop making most of its film-camera products to concentrate on marketing digital cameras.

Some Updates [General]

Look at this picture I took last night - Charles River and the Boston skyline. I was locked out of the car in the cold for more than an hour and got a ticket for my car's broken light. I do need a new car :(.

I start to print my thesis, which is the most fun part of writing. I have to send them out by the mid of the week. I will go back to Yale to do the oral defense on January 27th. I finished most of the work and there should be no problem. But it needs some time. Things are going well in the lab. I just fixed the STM system and the experiments will resume. The recovery of the other system is going well.

Come Back Home [General]

After 18 hours drive I finally got back home. Eventhough it's cold and snowy, getting back home is nice.

The trip is very nice. Chi and I experienced all we had expected and also came across a lot of things that beyond our expectation. Check out the pictures in the travel journal.

I need to take some rest and get back to school.
