![]() We had a group party at Cyndy's place today. A huge thunder storm hit the area when we were on the road to Cyndy's house. The party is the farewell party for BK and Wanda. BK is leaving to Korea and Wanda is promoted and working in another department. Many people joined the party and I had the first group picture.
![]() Fifty years ago today SS Andrea Doria sunk in the south of Nantucket Island on route from Italy to New York City. The accident was due to the crash to another boat Stockholm caused by the heavy fog. Andrea Doria, one of the most gorgeous liners at the time, has slept on the 200ft ocean bottom for 50 years. However, the true reason why the shipwreck is so enchanting is because of the many exploration stories . It is one of the toughest shipwrecks that you can barely dive. From 1981 to 1999, 12 people have died when diving Andrea Doria. "After 20 minutes exploring the wreck, the diver must spend another 90 decompressing before returning to the surface. But he brings back with him unforgettable images of ruined luxe and of the end of a magnified era in ocean travel. " Last moment of SS Andrea Doria: ![]()
![]() After many hours of driving I finally got home. Boston goes up to 95F today and is as hot as the south. After the whole week of diving, I feel like coming back from another world. It's a wonderful trip! I will put up the journal sometime this week.
I am looking for a new place to live. It is hard in the place like Cambridge. I called different companies and scheduled three apartment showing in one day.
At the noon time, I met the first broker - a young beautiful Sharopova-like Russian-American lady who drives a new Passat. She showed a place in the very north of Somerville. The apartment is - well crappy! Small, very far and not cheap. The lady got very upset and refused to drop me off at the same place we met. She had all kinds of excuses and decided to drop me off at the subway station in Porter Square. Thank God she could not find the station with her crappy GPS and finally had to drop me off at Harvard Yark, right outside of the lab. Early afternoon, I was standing outside of a building and waiting for the second broker. She never showed up. Well the building was way tooooo crappy. I just left. In the late afternoon, I met the third one. (Another lady!) I like the location, the place is very neat. I asked if she could speak to the landlord to reduce the rent from 1050 to 1000. She said there is another girl referred by the landlord to see the apartment and she would not be able to decide whether or not she could give me the apartment - it's gonna be a price war - she told me. 20 minutes later, she called. She told me the girl saw the apartment and wanted to pay 1000. If I could pay 1050, I would have the apartment. Ahha! Now I understand how smart a broker would be! I had agreed to pay half fee to the broker until I realized on the list she mentioned 'NO FEE'. She waived the fee! But what if I did not see it? That's the story of finding my next apartment in one day! I am glad it's done. And most important - I am settling down at Harvard - another long way to go!
![]() I spent half of the day in Ikea with Dr. Zhou. He is collecting new furniture for the new apartment. In the afternoon, we were with Rui, Ling, Chi and Xiaoxiao watching FIFA World Cup. It's a nice game! I think for the last a few games, it's kind of sad no matter which team loses the game. The fireworks on Charles River is very famous. Well it's not as good as I imagined - a once-enough-in-lifetime experience.
Claire's is right located in the heart of New Haven. The historical Chaeple Street has the old stores as well as Yale's two big art galleries. Welcome to drop by and take a look at the pictures. It's a cool idea in the summer - to have a cool ice tea, sitting in the nice restaurant and viewing the nature pictures. Thanks for Xia and Sophia for the great help! |
