![]() US Open starts with a huge opening ceremony by dedicating the stadium to Billie Jean King. As usual the rain is always a big problem. I am not sure if I would be able to take off the day next week to go to New York City. Haven't been able to play tennis a lot this summer - missing the old days!
I drove Xia to State College this weekend. She is going to start her new post-doc in Penn State. Here are what happened to us:
1. I was caught by the very bad traffic outside Boston. It took me almost 5 hours to get to New Haven. The good thing is I got a chance to see Ed and Chris. 2. The wind shield was broken in New Haven. Obviously the digital camera left in the car is the attraction. And it was stolen. 3. It took us 4 hours to argue with Budget and changed to another car. I usually like Budget. But it sucks this time. 4. We have to transfer all the packages to the new car. 5. I almost get a speeding ticket on I-80. 6. With all of these happened, I couldn't take a picture! But we made it and got home safely!
![]() Late summer and the early fall would be the best time to dive New England. I have been terribly busy recently and eventually got a chance to dive with the group of advanced class. I saw Mark, Don, Mike, Ryan and Russ on the boat. I haven't saw Russ for a while actually. Everything grows in abundance. Sea urchins and mussles are just patching almost every rock. Half-way Rock is not as good as I'd imagined. There are big mussles everywhere - doesn't look quite right. But I still found the big Northern red sea anemone. Pretty cool. The Egg Rock is very pretty. I came here with Chi and Mark early June but it did not look very nice. But this time, Russ and I swam around the rock. It's just beautiful. Green water, patches of sea urchins and beautiful sea anemones. It's cool diving. I would try to get more chances of diving when the season is close to the end.
Since I moved to Boston, there has been less activities/working out. I am worrying about wheather or not I can finish the hiking - about 7 miles which is the longest distance for me. My concern is actually right. It almost 'killed' me because I feel very painful on my right knee and ankle. But there is just no way that you can turn around and walk back. Mountains in New Hampshire and Maine are beautiful. The enviroment changes constantly with the lattitude - from the thick forestry to small alpines and eventually no trees at all but strong wind. You won't appreciate the beauty unless you climb to the very top.
![]() It's never been this hot - Boston today reaches 105F. But what the most amazing thing is that the cold front takes over the hot air so quietly that there is even no rain and no wind. The only thing you notice is that the temperature drops from 100F to 75F in a couple of minutes and you can not believe it. I haven't been able to update my jounal for a while. A lot of things happened to my work recently. I have been able to straighten everything out. Sometime there are only two roads in front of you - one is going up and one is going down. You just have to work hard and go up! I am glad I made it. Stay cool in the summer! |
