![]() It's the story of a 30-day sword trip to Grand Banks on Hannah Boden captained by Linda Greenlaw. Hannah Boden is the sistership of Andrea Gail, who was lost in the perfect storm in 1991. Linda Greenlaw was so far the only and one of the best swordfish captain in Northern Atlantic. Yes, sword fishing trip can be very interesting. But I feel what is the most attractive is the love to the sea that makes the story so vivid. The writting is so good that you can immediately smell life on the ocean. "...while steaming, the passage of time is measured in distance rather than hours, miles being more powerful than many sweeps of the second hand...once we reach the fishing grounds, and the first set is made, the measure against which to mark the passage of time shifts from distance to the number of sets make and pounds of fish onborard..." It's a good and fun read!
Seems like I keep track on what I have been doing in each Thanksgiving. This is the second on since I moved to Cambridge. Like last year, I spent most of the day in the lab to catch some work. When the year-end is approaching, I am trying to catch up as much as I can. Plus it miserable outside, what else I can do?
I made a visit to Yale on Tuesday. I still miss the lab. Seems like things over there aren't going very smoothly. While research is tough. I am reading Hungry Ocean these days. I feel like there are a lot similarities in between sword fishing and doing research. You can not just make a living through them, you have to live with them. I would have a chance to go to a research meeting next February in Ventura, CA. I just found out there are lots of boats diving the Channel Islands there, which makes me so excited! Happy Thanksgiving!

After the delay of several months, I finally finished the report of this summer's North / South Carolina dive trip. It's actually pretty cool. One of my favorites is the video down the Cooper River. You would have the feeling of diving the black water.
It's the end of the season (actually it's already ended). The temperature is cold. However today is a very calm day so we don't feel very cold. Moreover, at this time of the year, water is still warm. Today the water reaches upper 50s. Well Fort Wetherill is crowded. Visibility is pretty bad - but it's actually normal! |
