![]() At the last several hours in Ventura I lost my wallet - including all the cash and IDs. With the cash Liangfang wired to me I finally got home. If this accident can be also considered as an adventure, then my trip to Ventura is perfect! The conference went extremely smoothly. I learned a lot from the talks and disscussions. I think this is especially important at a post-doc stage because I can gain a lot of experience for my future work. I spent the weekend on the diving boat - Spectre. It's a very nice boat - with plenty of hot water (even with a hot tub!) and very nice food. Although the water is pretty cold, I made all of the eight dives in the two days. There are so much to see in the water of Channel Islands - seals, sea lions, blue sea urchines and the kelp forestry. I took many wonderful pictures and had such a good time. It's also nice to get back to work. I will put up a journal ASAP.
![]() I had planned to take some pictures of the meeting. Turned out it is the policy of the conference that there is no picture taken during the meeting. So I think I am just going to ignor about the meeting part in my journal. In the free time this afternoon, we went to a whale watching trip out to the Channel Islands. We saw many seals/sea lions along the Anacapa Island. The coolest part was to see the dolphins. I saw dophins all the time in my dive trip but never saw so many around the boat. The trip covered more than 50 miles but we did not spot any whales. Anyway, it was very interesting.
![]() We just made to the Ventura this afternoon. The travel was smooth. We had our 7 hour flight with most of seats empty. But what is really great is the beautiful scene and nice hotel here in Ventura. We walked along the beach after the conference registration. It was very nice! ![]() I feel very guilty for not updating the website more frequently. It's been terribly busy since I came back from Florida. Even the pictures from Florida trip are left way behind. There is big progress in the research. That probably can explain why I am so busy. I have been having 'dinner' after mid-night for a couple of days. I am leaving to Ventura tomorrow for the Gordor conference. I am very excited because this is a valuable chance to learn the frontiers in the field. Afterwards, I will spend three days in Channel Islands for diving. This would be my first dive trip by flight and also would be my first dive in the west coast. I will keep the journal updated!
![]() I think I should write something today because I saw this picture of poplar bears stuck on a floating iceberg. If you don't care about nature, you probably won't even notice how bad the situation is now. i heard the joke about the winter - 'even the polar bear fears cold'. Actually they are not.Because of the global warming, the first victims are including polar bears, harp seals and penguins. There is no actually 'happy feet' in reality. So let's do something by ourselves. Try do read your papers on computer instead of printing everything - if you don't like it, get used to it. Try to use less one-time cup to drink water. Have a cup near you. There is so much you can do. We only have one earth - we can not afford loosing it! |
