![]() Everyone was shocked by the tragedy in VT at the beginning of the week and everything has been blended with sorrow. This is not only because I have friends and former professor at VT but also because I am a person belongs to campus. This makes me to think people around me in different campuses through out my life. I can really think of someone who might need some help at the time - a little bit more attention or caring. But in fact everyone just basically ignored or wouldn't think it as a big deal. Of course most of the time, it would be fine. Everyone can find a way and have a life. But in rare case, it becomes tragedy. Yes, we are all busy. We are all trying to have a life - a better life. But more of the time we are too busy to pause and look around. A little bit more caring should be given. Peace to those who lost their lives!
Winter is the slow season for anything elso other than working in the lab. I don't feel like there is much to say about my research. So the web journal becomes really slow. But everything goes smoothly. I will attend ACS meeting in August in Boston and I will give an invited talk. In June, I may have chance to go with Ed to St. Lawrence Seaway in upper New York right on the Canadian boarder. Summer is close - I guess (it's still so cold and there will be a snow storm later in the week).
I will start looking for a job later this year. It would be so tough that worrying about it basically becomes useless. I will try to write as much as I can.
![]() Liangfang passed me this picture today and it became everyone's topic in the lab this afternoon. It's so funny...well Tom claimed that he was in the "Null Zone" - which fell into everyone's expectation. haha...
![]() I had a get-together dinner with friends from Tsinghua now studying/working at MIT. Rikee came here from Singapore for the MRS meeting. (From left: Rikee, me, Yuhua, Liangfang, Miao and Huan)
Nature premiered the episode of "Unforgettable Elephants". I was stunned by the breath-taking cinematography, especially when the group of the animal travelled pass the desert. But the most amazing part is the sophisticated soul of the elephants, the subtlety of their society. It was so profound that I am wondering how much do we even know of ourselves. |
